Unit 2. My Food Environment

In Unit 2, we learned about our food environment. We researched the level of food security in our environment and mapped shops and restaurants in our neighborhood. This map was included in a digital magazine with other data about food security.

We also learned how local agriculture can help make a city’s food environment more sustainable.

Unit 1. Welcome to Global Scholars

In Unit 1, we introduced ourselves to our peers from other countries and got to know the project. We also did a video about our school, showing the different rooms, and about Madrid, showing the most important places.

 

Basic Vocabulary

Peer: A person who is similar to you in age or experience.

Perspective: The way a person understands the world because of their experiences, beliefs, and cultures.

Food, Cities and Our Future

Building healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems

Two first of ESO English classes are doing a project called Global Scholars. In this project, we discuss global issues with people from other countries by posting messages and replies. These are the cities in our collaboration this year:

  • Barcelona (Spain)
  • Fort Lauderdale/Broward (United States)Mapa

  • Madrid (Spain)

  • Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan)

This year we are focusing on food security.

 

Basic vocabulary

  • Food security is that everyone has access to the nutritious food they need.
  • Sustainability is when you do something without harming people or the planet and you can do it repeatedly as it doesn’t cause any damage. 
  • Equity is normally confused with equality. Equality happens when everybody receives the same thing, and equity happens when everybody receives what they need according to their situation.
