1.4 SECONDARY EDUCATION SCHOOLS

 Every year, the Programme which the Ministry of Education implements in different regions of Spain provides the Region of Madrid with 55 Language Assistants. The Regional Ministry of Education assigns them to Secondary schools in which neither the Bilingual Programme nor the Language Section Programme have been introduced.  

One Language Assistant is assigned to each of these schools. Of the 55, 24 are native speakers of English, 25 French, 4 German and 2 Italian. The schools which receive these Assistants vary from year to year so as to ensure that as many schools as possible profit from the presence of a Language Assistant for the length of a school year. 

As previously mentioned in this guide, these Assistant are financed by the Ministry of Education and are required to work 12 hours a week.
