YEARS 15-17 YEARS 15-17

These are some of the experiences I take part in our school IES CARMEN CONDE

1. EXCHANGE WITH NEWPORT ( UK)

With my colleague of the English Department, Sara Cerezo, I travelled to England with a group of 27 students of 3º ESO in September. We went to Newport, a city quite near Cambridge. Our exchange school was Joyce Frankland Academy.

We visited Cambridge, London and spent a great time with the families and in the school.

The English students came to Spain in November and followed a busy schedule of activities: Segovia, Madrid, visited the Mayor, attended a full time day at school etc. It was a great experience for all of us. To know more about the exchange click here

The following year ( 16-17) two of my colleagues; Sara Cerezo and laura Jiménez travelled to England with 19 students of 3º ESO, we organised all the activities when they arrived in Madrid.

We have made up a blog bout the exchange that you can follow clicking here:

2. SAINT PATRICK'S DAY

We try to celebrate cultural days in school, we started with Halloween, Thanksgiving Day and also Saint Patrick.

This time I asked my students of 1ºESO D Sección to prepare a collage including all the things they had researched about this worldwide celebration. With the help of some of my colleagues we had an exhibition in the hall.

3. BOOK DAY 2016

This April 23rd we decided to celebrate the anniversaries of some British authors:  Roald Dahl, Charlotte Brontë and Shakespeare. I prepared an activity with my students of 1º ESO about Riald Dahl and the teachers of 3rd planned a project about shakespeare. The students prepared posters about the authors and an Elizabethan page of a newspaper with news about "the Bard" and his works.

Here we have some photos of the exhibition

4. THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

We organise lots of cross-curricular activities in school  to celebrate the European Day of languages on September 26th.

There are activities organised by all the languages departments in school: Spanish, Latin, French and English. We work on tongue twisters, idioms, proberbs, palindromes etc in all the languages. There are greetings in all the languages and we also learn about all the celebrities that speak languages.

We hold exhibitions all over school, in the classrooms and in the hall. The students can wear the bracelets and stickers the European Comission sent to us.

We even filmed "mannequin challenges in different classes explaining why languages are important.

5. WOMEN'S DAY

We celebrated International Women´s Day in school with a big exhibition in the hall about outstanding women, we wore stickers with the international slogans from the UN and violet ribbons, we stopped our classes at 12:00 to remember those women who died because of violence and had one-minute silence in the playground. It was also a good opportunity to remember Carmen Conde, a brave woman writer whose name our school bears.

A FUNNY DEPARTMENT

A CALENDAR PAGE: Every year some parents, students and some teachers participate in a funny project where they had to copy a famous painting, represent an age of history etc. that later will turn into a calendar. Here we have the English Department ones. We represented " Las Musas y Apolo" by Peruzzi,  the Roaring 20s, the film "Tacones Lejanos"and the band Bob Marley and the Wailers.

We try to celebrate as much as possible in school and our classes.
