PROGRAMA BILINGÜE PROGRAMA BILINGÜE

An Introduction to the Madrid Model United Nations Programme for 3º ESO

GLOBAL CLASSROOMS is part of the 3rd ESO syllabus in the bilingual sections of the secondary schools of the Comunidad de Madrid. It is a mock session of the United Nations in which a limited amount of countries discuss about a predetermined topic of global scope.

This year´s topic was “Education in Conflict and Post-Conflict Zones”. Students, grouped in delegations have written a Position Paper explaining the country’s stand and proposals.

Starting in September, students have dwelved into how the United Nations and FMI work. They have dealt with topics such as globalization, the loan system, inequalities, some basic economic concepts, demography, etc, within the Social Sciences realm. In English, students practice debate and presentation techniques, practice UN voting procedures, and rehearse the debate of their topic.

At a certain moment, the ten best students in 3rd ESO group were selected for the Preliminary Conferences that have taken place in January 2023. A fierce and competitive duel was held in order to choose a small group of students who would finally attended a real session of the United Nations in New York.

On behalf of IES Cervantes, we would like to cangragulate our delegations, who have represented our school showing not only a high level of english but also serious commitment throughout the whole process; in particular, the Brazil delegation who was selected for the second round as the South Africa delegation to debate on the topic of “The Circular Economy”. We would also like to thank the teachers and language assistant that guided our students throughout the process: Roberto Lorente Pérez, Andrea Monasterio León, María Schultz Serrano and Zara McKinlay.

Thank you for your hard work and thanks to all the students in 3ESO for your participation in the school conference in December, and for supporting the delegations at the Madrid conference in January.

Congratulations on your achievement. we are very proud of you!
