PLANTS

Plants can be classified into flowering and non-flowering:

Flowering and Nonflowering Plants from K Tripp on Vimeo.

Within the non-flowering (SPORE-PRODUCING) category we can find mosses and ferns

Moss grown on trees Mosses have root structures called rhizoids which are fine fibres, like hairs, which attach the plant to the soil The rhizoid (C) support the plant but it doesn´t take in water. Mosses absorb water through their stems and leaves (A and B)

Ferns on the soil of a forest. They are much larger than mosses. They have a thick stem called a rhizome which grows underground. The roots and leaves grow from the rhizome. Ferns have large leaves called fronds Ferns reproduce with spores. Spores form on the underside of the leaves, on dark spots called sori (in singular, sorus)

Within the flowering category (SEED-PRODUCING) we can find two main groups: gymnosperms and angiosperms.
