U1: INTERACTION (Nervous System & 5 Senses)
A) THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
The nervous system controls our body and everything that we do (thinking, moving, talking, ...)
It is made up of our brain and nerves.
The nervous system | PARTS OF THE BRAIN |
|
B) OUR FIVE SENSES
There are 5 senses that help us to feel the world around us.
1. The Sight
The sight is used to distinguish shapes, colours, size and distance.
|
2. The hearing
Hearing is the sense you use to capture sounds.
The EARS capture sound vibrations from the air and send them to the brain.
3. The Smell
The sense of smell is used to identify different odours.
The sense organ of smell is inside our nose
4. The taste
The sense of taste allows you to capture different flavours or tastes of food.
The TONGUE is the organ we use to detect all the flavors and it is in OUR MOUTH.
There are FOUR BASIC FLAVOURS, captured by the different parts of our TONGUE.
* Do you know that SMELL and TASTE senses work together.
5. The touch
The sense of touch is in our skin all around our body. The touch helps you to identify characteristics of the objects around you.
The SKIN has got touch receptors to distinguish sensations. So you can know if objects are:
cold or hot / soft or hard / smooth or rough / wet or dry.
