“When a man is tired of London, he´s tired of life”, Dr. Johnson wrote. And once more, I must say, he was right. Name anything you would like to experience and be sure you will find it in London: it caters for all tastes.
From the 28th April to the 2nd May, 2006, a group of 38 people who belonged to Fuenlabrada EOI and San Fernando de Henares EOI went on a trip to London. I remember the two groups meeting at terminal 4 Barajas Airport at 5 o´clock in the morning and wondering how this was going to turn out. Getting there was quick, just a two-and-a- half hour flight . Be aware of the endless Terminal Four corridors, which seemed even longer than the flight itself.
Once there and after having left our luggage in our centrally located although not very clean hotel, we started to explore the city. By the way, unless you are stinking rich, forget about decent accommodation in central London.

We spent our first day on a walking tour, and believe me, there were no complaints at all: Hyde Park, the Thames, Westminster Abbey, the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street (Tony Blair´s official residence), Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, Covent Garden. Literally, we walked miles (or kilometres, if you wish) and even though we ended up knackered, we suddenly realized that it had been worthwhile.
The best thing about London is that it is such a melting pot that it is impossible to feel foreign. After a couple of hours you just adjust and it is easy to find your way on the underground, you get used to people driving on the left and also to hearing lots of Spanish since there are thousands around.
Another terrific experience was having the opportunity to enjoy the superb views of the city from the London Eye: a gigantic wheel just opposite the Houses of Parliament , which takes half an hour to go round.
And what about food? Well, as you can imagine, no “tapas”, no tasty “paella”, no home-made meals; but we went to a pub to have our dinner and were quite happy about it: it was fun to try to order everything (even desserts) in advance especially because there were only five menus for 38 people. Our farewell was in an Indian restaurant located in Brick Lane, which is one of the trendiest areas in London. A humble piece of advice: don´t rely on an Indian waiter if he assures you that the meal you are about to order is not spicy at all. It is.
“Shop till you drop”. Something you cannot skip while in London. We went to Camden Town market and got crazy about clothes, accessories and international food, which is cooked and sold in stalls and eaten by the river, provided that you can find somewhere to sit or while you walk around. Of course, we visited the classiest department store, Harrods´, where we bought whatever we could afford.
What else can I tell you? That I´ve been lots of times to London and that not a single trip has been the same as the one before. For me, the best thing about this one has been rediscovering the city through the eyes of the people who travelled with me. Sure that I am not tired of life yet.
