We can classify illness:
1.- According to how quickly they appear and how long they last :
ACUTE: appears rapidly and does not last a long time. Flu or diarrhoea are two examples.
CHRONIC: appears slowly and last a long time. Allergies and diabetes are two examples.
CONGENITAL: are present from birth. Dwarfism and haemophilia are two examples.

2.- And according to their origin:
2 a - INFECTIOUS: caused by a virus or microbe. There are different types of infectious diseases depending on the agent that causes the infection:
a. BACTERIAL : caused by a bacteria ( pneumonia, tetanus, salmonella)
b. FUNGAL : caused by fungi ( athlete´s foot)
c. PARASITIC: caused by protozoans (malaria)
d. VIRAL: caused by a virus ( flu, chickenpox, measles, AIDs)
2 b- NON-INFECTIOUS: have other causes like poison, injuries or poor nutrition.
